The Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has officially announced the return of Hungarian coach István Urbányi as the Head Coach of the Maldives national football team, 12 years after his previous tenure.
Urbányi, who coached the Maldives from 2011 to 2013, will also take on the role of Technical Director, giving him responsibility over both the senior national team and the country’s long-term football development strategy.
Since leaving the Maldives, Urbányi has gained extensive international experience, working in Hungary and the United States in roles ranging from head coach to sporting director and youth development specialist. Most recently, he has been involved in professional and academy football structures in the USA.
FAM stated that Urbányi’s return is part of a broader plan to strengthen technical standards, improve player pathways, and bring stability and long-term vision to Maldivian football.
