OPINIONS: Goalkeeping Department Has Been The Best Part Of Maldives This Year
Without a doubt Mohamed Faisal has been our best performer this year.
We have not had this kind of performance from a Maldivian goalkeeper since Imran Mohamed retired. Faisal has proved his haters wrong. Faisal is no stranger to Maldives football. He has been our number one for a while now. Though i would like to see Mohamed Imran(Kuda Imma) in goal, Faisal's performance has to be acknowledged. Like one of your earlier articles, Faisal saved Maldives more than one occasion in this SAFF Games. First game in his heroic performance against Sri Lanka is the only reason why we are in this tournament now. Not to mention saves against India to keep the goal difference low.
Faisal is trained by the same coach who trains Sri Lanka's Sujan Perrera. Sujan has improved tremendously over the years. He rose from Under 23 reserve keeper to the National senior team captain in just three years working with Aslam. Yes former Maldives National goalkeeper Aslam Abdul Raheem, Maldives goalkeeper trainer continues to prove that he is the best in this region.
In this time, the worst since I have started to watch football, a very positive note is the way our goalkeeper has improved. All the other departments are devoid of creativity and just looks as though they are playing without a proper plan unlike the Indians and Sri Lankans who had very organized play.
In the wake of all the criticism to the Maldives National Team, i felt it is important to acknowledge the tremendous improvement Mohamed Faisal has shown. And I would like to say that this is Aslam's contribution to the national team. Proof is the way he had improved Sri Lanka's goalkeeper with whom he works in Club Eagles. Sujan Perera if i am not mistaken praised the Maldives goalkeeper coach and thanked him sometime ago when Sujan was called up for the Sri Lankan senior National team.
If we are to have any chance in today's game, I trust Faisal will be on his best. I sincerely hope that our goalkeeper department is in good hands on and off the pitch.
As we await Petar Segrt's Match-day squad, we really pray that our best performer so far this SAFF Cup Mohamed Faisal is not replaced. So far the coach has shocked us a few times. Hope Faisal keeps his place and keeps a clean sheet again.
Keep faith fellow Maldivians. Lets pray and hope that today is the day that our SAFF Championship disappointment changes! Inn Sha Allah.
