National Team departs to camp in Qatar

Maldives National Football team has left today to Qatar to camp in preparations for the SAFF Suzuki Cup which is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh from 4-15 September 2018.

A squad of 27 players along with the team officials left today early morning, seen of by the senior officials of FAM, Ministry of Youth and Sports and well wishes. Maldives National team is scheduled to camp and possibly play friendly matches in Qatar and depart to Bangladesh direct from Qatar.

The National Team coach peter Segrt has be under scrutiny since the selection of the National squad, from all the media’s for not including the legendary striker Ali Ashfaq in the squad. Many of the news papers are reporting that, the coach did not take any questions before departing and only giving a brief statement to the press about giving the current youth squad a chance and that all the football fans should unite behind the current team.

The current squad of 27 players would be further reduced to 20 players before the team leaves to Bangladesh in the first week of September. Maldives Football team is targeting to win the SAFF Championship for a second time.
