In the Neymar Jr’s Five World Final held in Brazil, from 20-21 July 2018, Maldives team loses to Australia 5-0 in the round of 32, to be eliminated from the tournament. The tournament was won by the team from Mexico who beat Argentina in the final by 5 goals to 2.

Maldives team was in Group K of the tournament along with South Africa, Ukraine, Algeria and Mauritius. Maldives team won against Mauritius and Algeria and drew against Ukraine to qualify to the round of 32.

At the group stage of the tournament, national champions from 59 countries featured in ten groups.

The event was hosted at Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr, a private, non-profit association dedicated to social causes set up by the player and his family.
