Supporters Battle – Blues vs the Kashikeyo Meehun

Throughout the Maldivian football history, Galholhu National Stadium has seen different type of supporters and fan bases. In the the 80 and 90 when the club support was at its peak, we had a full packed Galholhu National stadium with genuine support bases for New Radiant, Victory and Valencia. Each batch of supporters had their own area at the stadium and showed their support in their own unique ways.

While the support for the Male’ clubs and the number of supporters reduced in the 2000 years, the opening of football to the Atoll and island through Minivan Championship and Ooredoo Dhivehi Premier League has opened up and brought about a totally new batch of supporters to the Galholhu National Stadium.

Malhos team supporters - the kashikeyo meehun

Malhos is a club with another genuine support base. While the team name maybe new to the Galholhu National Stadium, the team supporters does seem to show it, They proudly call themselves the “Kashikeyo meehun”. The island famous for the fruit "Kashikeyo. They travel from the island to each match day in their team colours  and have been very vocal and loud in showing their support. An island in love with football and very proud of their teams achievements.

While the match on the pitch might be very one sided tonight, the battle of the supports seems a bit more equally matched. We will have to wait and see the match to see which batch of supporters come on top.

The bigger question of which team has the best supporters will have to wait till another day. A time when  home and away match days are introduced in the Ooredoo Dhivehi premier league to see if the Male' league team supports would travel to the island in number to support their teams. We look forward to such a day.
