Rumor: Shakittey to become the senior National Team Assistant Coach
According to our sources former Eagles Youth team coach, Ahmed Shakir (Shakittey) is to be appointed the assistant coach of the senior National Team. Shakittey will be assistant to the newly appointed national coach Petar Segrt.
Ahmed Shakir left Eagles as Maldives' most successful under 21 coach, having won three consecutive tournaments. Shakittey was Coach Ihusaan Abdul Ghani's (Saanthi) first assistant coach at Eagles. Having recently completed the A-certificate course in Maldives, Shakittey is one of the coaches to look out for. Shakittey has worked in the Association previously in the under 23 squad with Coach Mohamed Athif and other youth teams. Many youth players, including national star player Ahmed Rizvan(Rizey) has mentioned Shakittey as one of those responsible for helping him reach the top level in Maldives football.
The National Coach has given a very assuring press release. Segrt has said that any player with the right attitude and discipline can be called up. He has also outlined the importance of Ali Ashfaq (Dhangandey) to build the team for the future.
