Petar Segrt arrives in Male' and is set to take over as National team boss
Former Afghan national team Coach petar segrt has arrived in Maldives and is set to take over the current vacant red snappers head coach position. petar was welcomed by FA officials.
The Croatian born German was a defender during his playing days. The 51 year old began his coaching career with FV Claw in 1983 and has had spells in Austria, Indonesia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Petar was also the head coach of Georgia in 2008. He was coach of Afghanistan from 2015 till last year.
Petar was the coach when Afghanistan defeated Maldives for the first time in the Lions of Khurasan history during the 2015 SAFF Championship group stage with a comprehensive 4-1 win.
Petar is a Uefa pro license coach and his coaching philosophy is described as good organization, aggressively attacking football with a good balance between offensive and defensive. Petar is known by working with clear concept, intensive communication with players while keeping the authority and leadership, developing players to a successful team with winner spirit. He is especially known by being loyal to the team, the club, federation members and to Fans.
Petar first task with the Maldives National team is a AFC Asian cup qualification third round group stage fixture at home against Bhutan in the final game of below par qualification campaign with the only win coming away from home in Thimphu.
The Red Snappers have suffered humiliation in the hands of Oman and Palestine. A 5-0 loss in Muscat and the last away game in north west bank ended 8-1 reaching an all time low for the national side which has seen attendances for National games drop drastically.
Petar's biggest task however will be guiding Maldives to a better finish in the SAFF Championship held this year in Bangladesh.The last time Maldives reached the final of the competition was in 2009 in Bangladesh and ever since has never made it to a final having being knocked out in the last three Semi finals.
