Former captain of Maldives national team, Assad Abdul Ghani has been appointed as the head coach of Nellaidhoo Football Team for the Minivan Championship.

Assad is known as the golden captain who lifted the SAFF Championship in 2008. He has previously played for Club Valencia and Club Eagles and has appeared in the national team jersey nearly 100 times. After announcing his retirement, he has worked as an assistant coach for the national team.

Nellaidhoo team did not participate in the tournament last year by they gave a good fight and were champions of Haa Dhaal atoll in 2016. Team’s trainings have begun with Assad with the aim of reaching the zone round.
