Maldives senior team departs to Qatar
Maldives national team has depart to Qatar today evening for a short training camp prior to the Asian Cup qualifying match against Oman on September 5th.
Maldives senior men football team will spend a week in Qatar in preparation for the one of the toughest fixture they would face in these qualifying round. During this training camp, Maldives is set to play a friendly against Al- Duhail Sports Club, the champions of Qatar Stars League (the biggest tournament), on this coming Wednesday, 30th September.
Right now Maldives sits in the 3rd position in the table ranking. From two matches played, a 3-0 loss to Palestine in home in the first match, and a 2-0 win against Bhutan in away, Maldives has gained 3 points same as Oman (the next opponent to Maldives). But Oman ranks at 2nd spot by goal difference.
After spending a week in training in Qatar, Maldives will finally leave to Oman for the match, on next week Sunday, September 3rd.
Maldives 23 players squad was accompanied by Football Association of Maldives president and executive officials during today’s departure. Speaking to media before the departure, head coach Darren Stewart said,
“ I am very happy with the selected players, we will make the best of this training camp, and will try to bring the our best game against Oman.”
