National U-16 team departs to SAFF Championship.

Maldives national under 16 football team has departed to their first tournament of the year, U-15 SAFF Championship 2017.

Team will first arrive in Sri Lanka and camp their for couple of days. During the time they will play a friendly match against Sri Lankan U16 football team, the same team which will be competing in U15 SAFF also. After that team will be finally leaving to Nepal for the official tournament.

In group A, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. In group B, India, Nepal and Maldives.
In tournament opener Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka on 18th August.
Maldives first match will be against India, on 19th August. And group stage last match will be against hosting country, Nepal, on 21st August.
Each team will face one another once in group stage round and group toppers and runner-ups will advance to semi finals. The tournament final is to be played on 27th August.

Tournament will be hosted by Nepal from 18th August to 27th August 2017. Matches will be played in Nepal ANFA Complex and Halchowk Stadium.
This year’s tournament will be fourth version of this age group’s SAFF Championship. Maldives have already taken part in 2 of the 3 tournaments, only skipping the 2013’s edition.

23 players, along with head coach , assistant coach, manager, medical officials , in total 6 officials will be traveling with the team. Team is set to return back to Maldives on 30th of August but they may return sooner regarding to their progression during the tournament.
