Saff Championship 2023 hosts India emerged victorious in their opening game against Pakistan thanks to a hat-trick from captain Sunil Chhetri. The game ended in a resounding 4-0 win for the Blue Tigers.

In the tenth minute a howler from Pakistan goalkeeper Saqib Haneef gifted Chhetri with an open goal to draw first blood and fire India into the lead. Saqib's failed clearance fell to the thankful feet of Chhetri who slotted the ball into the back of the net.

Six minute later in the 16th minute India won a penalty and Chhetri found the back of the net to make it 2-0 for India.

In the 74th minute Chhetri was taken down inside the box. Chhetri stepped up to convert from the spot to complete his hat-trick.

 Substitute Udanta Singh finished off India's resounding victory with a late goal.
