Maziya Sports and Recreation coach Miodrag Jesic has said that his side has a chance to make it to the knockout stages despite his side not being a favorite in the group. Speaking ahead of the game against Bashundhara kings in the group opener Jesic said Maziya seeks every aspect as a positive despite Mohun Bagan and Bashundhara's favorites of the group.

Maziya lost last season's AFC Cup fixture against Bashundhara by 2-0 goals at home. When asked about the Bangladeshi champion's overseas players Jesic said he is not concerned about individual talent and his main focus is Bashundhara's play as a team. Jesic also said he has done enough research about opponents to understand their style of football and his side is well prepared for the job at hand.
