Can Maziya make it past the group stage this time around?
Maziya Sports and Recreation have departed for the AFC Cup 2022 South Asian group fixtures in Kolkata from 18th to 24th May. Last season AFC cup group stages fixtures were held at home in Male' but the Green boys failed to put in any real display and finished bottom of the group.
This time around Maziya have invested heavily for the AFC Cup run with the likes of Spanish attacker Tana and defender Nemanja Kartal alongside ever green Stewart Cornelius and Nepali captain Kiran in goal.
The oversees players are linked up with a handful of National players who feature in the starting 11 of the national team. Despite Maziya out running opposition in league games the green boys are likely to struggle against AFC Cup opponents. Indian side Mohun Bagan are favorites to top the group while Bangladeshi champions Bashundhara Kings strong contenders.
Should Maziya want a place in the knock out stages they must bring results against one of Mohun Bagan or Bashundhara while Gokulam Kerala will be highly dependent on their import players.
Maziya will have to put on their best display and hope for favorable results against Mohun Bagan and Bashundhara for any hopes of making it into the knock out stages. Boalha.mv predicts a strong fight between Bashundhara and Mohun Bagan for the top spot in the group.
