Maldives grouped with champion Nepal and Bhutan in U-18 SAFF Championship

The second edition of U-19 SAFF championship draw has being finalized last week, on 10th July. Draw took place in Bangladesh Football Federation. And the tournament will be hosted in Bhutan from 18th to 27th September.

However the name of the tournament has being officially renamed from U-19 to U-18. This change was made regarding to most of the participating countries sending  their U-18 side to the tournament  as their countries have to participate in the 2018 AFC U-19 Championship qualification following to U-18 SAFF.

As this will be the second tournament of its kind, this time only six nations will be competing, hosting Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Maldives and the current champion Nepal.

In group A, Bangladesh, Bhutan and India. And in the group B, Maldives, Nepal and Sri Lanka. Two teams from each group, the group winners and runner-ups will advance to semifinal round as each team will face one another in group stage round.

Tournament fixtures has being already released. Matches will be played in the capital of Bhutan, Thimpu City, in Changlimithang Stadium. Tournament opening match will be played on 18th September, between Indian and Bhutan. Tournament final to be played on 27th September.

Tournament’s first match for Maldives will be on 21st September, against Sri Lanka. And the second and group stage last  match will be on 23rd September against champion Nepal.
