Former England Goalkeeper Ray Clemence Dies at the Age of 72

Former England, Liverpool and Tottenham goalkeeper Ray Clemence passed away on Sunday. 

The 72 year-old died after battling cancer since 2005.

His family issued a statement on Sunday stated that he passed away peacefully today surrounded by his loving family. 

In the statement they also noted "After fighting so hard, for such a long time, he's now at peace and no more pain." 

Clemence played an important role in his former club Liverpool between 1967 to 1981. He won five league titles, three European Cups, FA cup, League Cup and two UEFA cups for Liverpool. He played a total of  470 games for Liverpool. 

later he joined Tottenham and appeared in 330 games. Clemence helped Tottenham to retain the FA Cup in 1982. He made his England debut in 1972 and once he became the captain of  the team in 1981. Later he was a goalkeeper coach at the English Football Association.
