SAFF championship postponed to 2018 after AIFF request
South Asian football federation cup has been postponed to to May 2018 after a request from All India football federation. The 12th edition of SAFF championship was originally scheduled for December 2017.
The decision was take after a SAFF executive committee meeting that was held in Mumbai last Thursday.
AIFF requested to postponed the tournament due to India hosting the under 17 world cup. The biggest football spectacle to happen in India will be held between October 6 to 28 while the Indian Super League which is seen to be an 11-team affair will start late.
Due to many sponsor of SAFF championship coming from India it is difficult to do anything against All India football federation's wishes. Rumors in India suggest that the under 23 side will be taking part in SAFF championship next year.
India are the defending champions having won the 11th edition of SAFF championship that was held in Thiruvananthapuram in 2015.
