Olympics men's football age limit raised to 24

FIFA has extended the age limit for the men’s football tournament for the rescheduled Gamesin Tokyo from 23 to 24. Players born on or after 1 January 1997 can take part in the 2021 Olympics. The decision gives players who played in qualification the chance to play in the finals. 

The men’s football tournament will kick off before the 23 July 2021 opening ceremony in Tokyo. The 16 qualified teams can also include three players over the age limit in the squad.

The 16 countries that have secured a spot in the finals for the men’s tournament are Argentina, holders Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Romania, New Zealand, Egypt, Ivory Coast, South Africa, Australia, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and hosts Japan.

Brazil are the defending champions coming into the finals are securing the gold in the home Olympics held in Rio.
