Coronavirus - Former Real Madrid president dies aged 76
Former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz has died a week after being diagnosed with coronavirus. Sanz was a director at Real for a decade after joining in 1985 and was elected club president in 1995, a position he held for five years.
Sanz oversaw the end of a drought for the Madrid club in the Champions League. Without a title since 1966, real claimed two titles during his time, beating Juventus in the 1998 final before beating Valencia in Paris two years later.
After departing from his role in Real Madrid,Sanz took charge of club Malaga for four years and returned to fight for the Madrid presidency again in 2004, losing to Perez.
Lorenzo Sanz sons Paco and Fernando also went on to become Malaga presidents and his daughter Malula is the wife of ex-defender Michel Salgado while eldest son Lorenzo appeared for the club's basketball side.
Almost 25,000 people had tested positive for coronavirus in Spain with over 1,300 dying from the illness.
