City and United donate £100,000 to Manchester food bank
Manchester United and City have donated £100,000 to food banks in greater Manchester to help people living below the poverty line to have access to food as the UK battles with coronavirus. The moves comes after Fans supporting food banks launched a fundraiser with MUFC food bank to help the 19 most affected areas in Manchester.
In a joint statement, City and United said: “We are proud of the role our supporters play in helping local food banks and recognize the increased strain likely to be placed on these charities by the impact of coronavirus. We are pleased to come together with our fans to help vulnerable members of society in a City United.”
Each club will donate £50,000 to the Trussell Trust, a network of over 1,200 food bank centres, including 19 in the Greater Manchester area.
A number of players and clubs from the premier league are supporting the fight against coronavirus. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich arranged accommodation for health workers in the club hotel in Stamford Bridge.
Manchester united midfielder Paul Pogba is raising £27,000 which will be used to buy surgical gloves, masks and vented goggles for health workers. Liverpool's Sadio Mane donated 30 million Wesr African franc to Senegalese committee fighting coronavirus.
