TC earn big win against Valencia and strengthen the chances of top four finish.
TC faced club Valencia in the second match of STO Male’ league round two. The match kicked of ten minutes late due to bad weather and most of the first half play was interrupted by heavy rainfall. Valencia were without foreign midfielder Prince after he was sent off in their previous game against New Radiant.
Seconds after kick-off TC got the opening goal of the match. A cross into the Valencia area saw the ball hitting a puddle and stop its movement which caused keeper Faisal being unable to collect it. Onrushing TC winger Ibrahim Mahudhee slotted the ball into the back of the net to make it 1-0 to TC.
Soon after Ibrahim Mahudhee scored again to make it 2-0. This time juggling the ball inside the area before lifting the ball over a Valencia defender and volleying the ball from close range leaving goalkeeper Faisal helpless. Early on and TC were comfortably cruising towards all three points.
The first 10 minutes of the game was completely dominated by TC but Valencia pushed forward for a goal and did so in the 12th minute of the game. After brilliant work on the right flank Omadu West cleverly went past a TC defender and crossed the ball into the area. Hamdhaan at the far post easily taped the ball into the net to give Valencia something to fight for. 2-1 the score was and Valencia weren’t done yet.
In the 17th minute TC got the ball in the middle of the pitch and placed a through ball to Ibrahim Mahudhee who took the ball wide of goal before shooting from a tight angle to the far bottom corner. Faisal made a brilliant save to deny Ibrahim Mahudhee a first half hat trick.
Valencia continued to threaten but it was TC who regained their two goal cushion. Hassan Naiz cuts inside from the right flank and shot low into the bottom corner as goalkeeper Faisal stood and watched the ball find the bottom corner of the net. 18 minutes played and the score was 3-1.
Couple of Minutes later Valencia conceded a free-kick in a dangerous position only for Naiz to put the ball over the bar.
After that Valencia held possession for the next five minutes and came close to getting their second goal. Shaam Shareef’s powerful shot looked as if it was going to find the top corner of the net but TC’s Egyptian defender Elmaghraby bravely jumped in the way of the shot which flicked off his head behind for a corner.
From the corner that followed Valencia won a penalty in the 33rd minute. Omadu West spot kick was a poor one. He went straight down the middle. The ball ended up crossing the line despite TC’s Nepalese goalkeeper Kiran getting a touch on the ball with his foot. 3-2 was the score as Valencia refused to back down without a fight.
Three minutes after Omadu West converted the penalty Ibrahim Mahudhee got a glorious chance to bag his hat trick but failed to do so. A Long ball played over the top of Valencia defense found Ibrahim Mahudhee who was all by himself but he couldn’t make perfect contact with the ball and it was a comfortable save for Faisal.
Valencia equalized in the 33rd minute through Hamdhaan after cross from Omadu west to make it all square. This was Hamdhaan’s second goal of the game. Some comeback from Valencia.
In the 38th minute of the game club Valencia played a long ball from the middle of the pitch. Ahmed Visam rose high to nicely flick the ball towards the goal but the ball went inches over the bar.
Two minutes before the break Stewart Cornelius made a brilliant run from the left flank before putting a cross into the area. TC captain Ali Nafiu’s diving header hit the far post before ending up in the back of the net to give TC the lead once again. 4-3 was the score.
In the last minute of play in the first half Ibrahim Mahudhee got a goal scoring chance from the edge of the box but his shot was way wide of the target. The wait for Ibrahim Mahudhee’s hat trick went on but it didn’t take long to come.
The first minute of the second half Ibrahim Mahudhee got his hat trick. A corner that was headed down by a TC player found Ibrahim who took no chances and blasted the ball toward goal which went into the back of the net with Valencia goalkeeper having no chance in the congested Valencia penalty area. TC got a two goal lead making it 5-3.
The second half was much tighter and few chances compared to the first half. In the 52nd minute Hassan Naiz did what he does best to cut inside and shoot a powerful shot. His shot was punched over the bar by Valencia goalie Faisal.
Eight minutes after the hour mark Ibrahim Mahudhee once again got an open chance but his shot went way over the bar and into the terrace.
Ibrahim Mahudhee continued to make runs forward and in the 72nd minute went pass the Valencia defense line and past the goalkeeper before cutting the ball back towards teammate Ibrahim Waheed who scored with ease. To make it 6-3. The biggest score line in this year’s Male’ league.
The one sided second half continued and TC got five more open opportunities but couldn’t get their 7th goal of the game. Captain Ali Nafiu came the closest in the 90th minute. His shot from inside the area after a cross from Ibrahim Mahudhee hit the woodwork.
With this win TC move to 3rd in the table with 14 points from 9 games. Meanwhile for Club Valencia their sorrow season continues and are yet to win in the Male’ league sitting bottom of league standings with 1 point from 9 games.
