OPINIONS: Where are those Victory SC Sympathizers now?
2017, Victory SC legends Ahmed Mauroof(Maattey) and Abdul Jaleel(Abujee) spoke out; Ali Suzain said that he cannot just stand by and watch victory decline. Nothing had happened then. The team were getting ready for the Dhivehi Premier League of 2017.
Then Victory Sports Club had a great chairman in Ibrahim Nazeem. He had invested heavily in a squad that any coach would want. Of course, this squad was assembled carefully by Coach Mohamed Shazly(Shaz) with the help of Victory management. Arguably the best squad of 2017. Sadly, Victory never went past the Male’ League. Few weeks before the season started, everything changed.
In recent history this was the dirtiest game played to outs a coach. Shaz was fired even before the season started. The great victory squad took a vote it seems with some senior players leading the coup bringing in Ali Suzain.
It was for the sake of Victory Sports Club, for its well-being. Two years later, Victory is on the brink of collapse, Maattey who was the General Secretary has left the club. There is no news from Abujee and Ali Suzain, who is the head coach of Green Streets.
Of course, Ali Suzain cannot leave his commitments and come to the rescue, when did he ever coach a weak side! We don’t expect him to resign from arguably the best squad of this season and help Victory out, but we don’t even have one public comment on the matter. Not from Suzain, not from Maattey not even from the great Abujee.

Last season when Victory’s problems started, one coach risked everything. He risked his career to come and lead Victory. Former Victory man Mohamed Nazeeh. Maybe these legends should learn from him. He came for free because Victory was in trouble and his club was done for the season. He is under long term contract with United Victory and he didn’t interfere in the infamous coup of 2017.
This season Victory coach Mohamed Adam was on his own till he resigned. I wonder if Mohamed Adam had the likes of Syrian Goalkeeper Mahmud al Yusuf, Velic Velichkov, Mustafa Seddik and Andrej Keric in addition to the likes of Mohamed Arif(Baka), Ismail Easa(Messi), Ahmed Niaz(Niyatte), Adhuham(Sadey) and others, would these so called well wishers of Victory still remain away from the club?
Who will lead Victory back to the glory days? Who has the guts to take over and build from scratch as Nazeem did with coach Shaz? We need a hero now; Victory doesn’t need a hero who will come as the cherry on top. No thank you nor do we need the opinions of the people who speak only when it benefits them. This is Victory Sports Club, One of Maldives greatest clubs. Though these legends helped make it one of the greatest, their intention with the club is questionable. So once again we need a sincere leader who loves the club. Mohamed Adam tried; I hope we will find the right person to bring back a glimmer of hope.
As a Victory fan I hope someone like Nazeeh will come to Victory to bring this great club out of the depths of the Premier League to the top.
