Will Segrt Give Dhagandey An Opportunity?
After Ali Ashfaq's(Dhagandey) tweet declaring himself ready to serve the nation, will under fire coach Petar Segrt give the 'iron man' another chance?
After winning the Best Player and the Golden Boots awards, Legendary player Dhagandey tweeted that he is ready to serve the nation at every opportunity. The 34 year old Green Streets striker first won the Male' League with New Radiant Sports Club before moving to TC Sports Club and win the Dhivehi Premier League with the lions.
Despite the excellent form of the Maldivian legend, Maldives head coach Petar Segrt pubicly humiliated Dhagandey by first questioning his commitment to the nation, then questioning his discipline. The coach also went on to say that Dhagandey is too old for his team as he was hopeful that Maldives can qualify to the biggest sporting event in the world, the FIFA World Cup. At the eve of the announcement of the National Squad for World Cup qualifying, Maldivians are left wondering if the legendary player will be given the place he deserves.
"we won medals in other sports in Indian Ocean games because we sent our best teams, In football we didn't" said a supporter who did not want to be named. Petar Segrt's decision to take leave behind many experienced players has shocked the nation.
Dhagandey tweeted earlier that 2018 has been a special year and thanked the players and managements of New Radiant Sports Club and TC Sports Club.
