Inter School: Kalaafaanu and Rehendhi heats up the race for spots in quarters of group C with wins
Today held four teams of the five-team group C to battle it out for spots in the quarter finals of the Mamen U-13 Inter School Football Tournament.
The early kickoff saw a tense game between Thaajuddin and Kalaafaanu. Thaajuddin came into the game knowing a win would get them to first place and almost guarantee a spot in the quarter finals. For Kalaafaanu, they needed a win desperately to get things on track if they are to go further in the tournament as they lost against Imaduddin in the first game. The dry and tense game saw it’s only goal in the last minute of stoppage time in first half as Kalaafaanu’s Agsan Ahmed Naseem netted the boal beautifully.
The evening Hulhumale’ derby that followed held plenty of action compared to that of the late afternoon game. Rehendhi came into the game from a draw against Thaajuddin in the first game and Huravee came from two back to back defeats. Both teams are some of the newest teams to feature in the tournament and are established in Hulhumale’.
Rehendhi started the game dominantly and Abdul Awwalu Mauroof netted the opener in the 13th minute. The same player followed it up later in the stoppage time of the half with another doubling the lead. He started the second half just like how he started and finished the first, netting three minutes into the half to make it 3-0. In the 17th minute Aayan Mohamed strikes another to increase Rehendhi’s advantage and the same player 3 minutes later got his brace as he scored another.
These results in group C means that Imaduddin still stays on top with 6 points despite not playing today. They are followed closely by Rehendhi with 4 points and advantage over Thaajuddin on goal difference who are level on points with them. Then in 4th is Kalaafaanu with 3 points meanwhile Huravee is knocked out as they have lost three games. Thaajuddin lost a golden opportunity to go above Imaduddin as they lost to Kalaafaanu.
