FAM Youth Championship 2019 to kick on first week of February
It is strongly believed that next year FAM youth Championship will be starting on February first week.
The champions of youth championship this year, Club Green Street won the title after defeating the most successful youth side, Club Eagles on penalties.
Last two years there have being a noticeable drop in the numbers of participating teams in youth level. Only 4 teams compete in the last two youth tournaments.
Other than this, it is also believed that the numbers of competing teams in next year youth championship will be increased.
The newly promoted club to first division of Maldives football, Da Grande Amigos New Generation, in sort, DAGANG, also is loudly voiced about their featuring youth level for the first time as surely they will be debuting into first division football next year.
The return of premier league winning TC Sports to youth tournament is also very likely to happen. They have being featuring in the youth level since their step into first division football in 2014. They only decided not to participate in last two tournament.
Just like last Thinadhoo side last year, whom were playing in premier league after coming through minivan championship, one of the atoll side based team, a team from Sh.Foakaidhoo is also strongly believed to step into youth tournament next year.
FAM has already decided to play the youth tournament as under 21 age category, as there is national under 23 AFC qualification coming up on March 2019. Next year's youth tournament will turn out to a stage from where candidates will be selected to represent national under 23 side in the coming AFC tournament.
This year's youth tournament was carried out as an under 19. Making the following youth tournament as an under 21, FAM wishes to provide the opportunity to this year's youth players to play in the coming year. And FAM will be carrying out this format ( under 19 once in two years, and under 21 in the following year) in the following years.
