Two Goalkeepers added to the National Squad
National football team coach Darren Stewart has added two more goalkeepers to the National team.
Goalkeepers Hassan Tholal from Valencia and Mohamed Shafeeu from Club Eagles have been added to the 27 man preliminary squad making it 29 players. The National Team will play the first game of the Asian Cup Qualification against Palestine on the 28th of march. Oman will play against Bhutan on the same day.
Hassan Tholal the former youth National Player has played for Victory, New Radiant and VB Sports. He is currently deputy to Maldives International Faisal. Mohamed Shafeeu (Chek) who joined Eagles after performing in the second division has also played for New Radiant Sports Club. He is currently deputy to Sri Lankan number one goalkeeper Sujan Perera. Both the goalkeepers being trained by arguably the best goalkeeper coach in the country Aslam Abdul Raheem.
Maldives top tier clubs have opted to bring in foreign goalkeepers. Except for the Legendary goalkeeper Imran Mohamed(who last year retired from international football), only Faisal is first choice in their respective clubs. Mohamed Imran (Kuda Imma) is deputy to goalkeeper Mahmoud Youssef, the Syrian International at Victory Sports Club.
